GGC Trainer:  Lori Verderosa, from Middletown, Rhode Island

Training CostFREE!!

Guiding Good Choices (GGC) is a drug use prevention program that provides parents of children in grades 4 through 8 (9 to 14 years old) with the knowledge and skills they need to: strengthen and clarify family expectations for behavior; enhance the conditions that promote bonding within the family; and teach skills that allow children to successfully resist drug use.  GGC is based on research that shows that consistent, positive parental involvement is important to helping children resist substance use and other antisocial behaviors. Sessions are interactive and skill based, with opportunities for parents to practice new skills, receive feedback, and use video-based vignettes to demonstrate parenting skills.  Families also receive a Family Guide containing family activities, discussion topics, skill-building exercises, and information on positive parenting.

Continental breakfasts and snacks provided free of charge on the 3 training days for participants. Participants are responsible for their own lunches and dinners.This training is paid for by the KY Faith-Based Prevention Enhancement Site, which is implemented through Communicare, Inc. Regional Prevention Center.

This training is ideal for:
§        Youth pastors/leaders to present to parents of youth group kids;
§        Parents who want to help other parents get through those “challenging” 4th grade through middle school years;
§        Prevention specialists who want to share a science-based, proven-effective ATOD-prevention program with parents and other adults.

Note: Space is limited to 40. Participants are expected to commit to attend all three days of the training. “Team teaching” by 2 people from the same organization is encouraged!!

Accommodations are made and paid for on your own: 16 lodge rooms (for 1-4 people) at $59.95/night; & 2 cottages (for 6-8 people) $154.95/night will be held for the Guiding Good Choices participants only until May 19; then it will be first-come, first-served basis with other guests.  Camping sites are also available.
